Are you bothered by the frizzy hair that you have to wash almost every day? You are not alone. A quarter of the adult population is dealing with this problem. We are happy to tell you how to deal with oily hair. In this post, we will reveal its causes and possible solutions.
How do I treat oily hair? First, discover their cause.
The fact that your body produces an excessive amount of sebum can be caused by genetic predispositions. Then greasy hair without volume bothers you all year round and is therefore not just a temporary issue.
If this is not your case, the cause must be looked for elsewhere.
In addition to genes, the following also play an important role:
- stress
- unhealthy eating
- hormonal changes (especially puberty and pregnancy)
- discontinuation of hormonal contraception
- frequent wearing of a head covering
- inappropriate hair cosmetics
- too frequent combing and reaching into the hair
- frequent blow-drying
What to avoid if you have oily hair
Similar to oily skin, excessive sebum production is compensation for excessive drying and careless handling. So try adjusting your lifestyle and the way you take care of your hair.
- Avoid blow-drying with hot air and combing your hair frequently with your fingers.
- Limit the consumption of junk food and avoid fatty, extremely sweet, salty, and spicy foods.
- Rest and a regular drinking regime are important. Sufficient hydration is reflected not only in radiant skin but also in beautiful, healthy hair.
What about oily hair? Review your hair care.
Oily hair needs to be washed more often, but you must do it right.
- It all starts with choosing the right shampoo. It should be suitable for frequent use and ideally natural, without silicones and other potentially irritating substances.
- As for quantity, just one teaspoon is enough to wash it.
- After lathering, rinse with lukewarm water, never hot.
- In the end, you can rinse your hair with cold shampoo; it closes the pores on the scalp.
Are conditioners and styling products suitable for oily hair?
When it comes to oily hair, the rule of thumb is “less is more.”. However, you don’t have to be banned from using conditioners. If you do use it, apply it only to the lengths of the hair, not the roots. As for styling products, keep them to a minimum. Remember that you should apply a maximum of two hair products to your hair per day.
What helps oily hair? Quick help comes in the form of dry shampoo.
They are a great help for all those who struggle with oily hair. As we have already mentioned, their frequent washing is not the most suitable. Applying dry shampoo can delay washing by a day or two. It is very practical, works immediately, and will save you both on the go and during rushed mornings.
Try grandma’s advice. They work for oily hair.
Even herbs and certain types of food can help you with quickly greasy hair.
Here are some of them:
- Nettle
Many hairdressers recommend using nettle shampoo, although not long-term. At home, you can prepare an infusion from the young parts of this plant and rinse your hair with it.
- Kefir
Instead of hair masks, use ordinary kefir. Rub into damp strands, leave on for 30 minutes, and then rinse.
- Burdock
Prepare an infusion from its root, which you leave on your hair and scalp for about 15 minutes. It soothes and nourishes the scalp while also improving the quality of the hair.
- Sorrel
Prepare sorrel hair water by throwing two handfuls of its leaves into a liter of boiling water and letting it infuse for 15 minutes under a lid at a lower temperature. Rinse your hair with the solution, and do not rinse with water.
